Joba Chamberlain Suspended for Two Games

Yankees Joba Chamberlain was suspended for two games Friday and fined $1,000, a day after he threw consecutive 98-99 mph pitches over the head of Boston’s Kevin Youkilis.

Chamberlain, ejected by plate umpire Angel Hernandez, claimed the ninth-inning pitches slipped and “there was no maliciousness or bad intention.”

Bob Watson, baseball’s vice president for discipline, cited Chamberlain for “inappropriate actions.” Watson at first contemplated suspending him for three games but decided on a two-game penalty after conversations with Yankees officials

Rodney Harrison Receives Four Game Suspension

New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison will be suspended four games by the NFL for admitting that he obtained human growth hormone. This is according to a report by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

His name came up in federal and New York state investigations into an Internet pharmaceutical distribution ring for steroids and other performance enhancers, according to the report.

This is the second suspension of Harrison’s career. He was suspended one game by the league in 2002 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on then-Oakland Raiders wide receiver Jerry Rice.

The Yanks sweep the Sox

With drama and flair, the New York Yankees completed another August sweep of the Boston Red Sox and moved into prime position for a September playoff run.

There was a week’s worth of highlights during the Yankees’ 5-0 victory Thursday: a no-hit bid by Chien-Ming Wang into the seventh inning, a pair of big home runs by Robinson Cano off Curt Schilling, a disputed play involving Alex Rodriguez that led to the ejection of Boston manager Terry Francona.

And then in the ninth, Yankees rookie sensation Joba Chamberlain was tossed following a pair of pitches over Kevin Youkilis’ head.

V CarsNFL is my favorite sports. Last year, we attended the all the games of the Oakland Riders. It was exciting even the Riders were losing almost every game. Kobe leads US to beat Argentina

Kobe Bryant scored 27 points — 15 in the first quarter — and the United States cruised into the semifinals of the FIBA Americas tournament as the No. 1 seed by beating Argentina 91-76 Thursday night.

The Americans took control early and were never threatened in the matchup with the defending Olympic gold medalists, who also came in undefeated despite playing this qualifying tournament without the core of their team.

Carmelo Anthony added 18 points and LeBron James had 15 for the Americans, who will face Puerto Rico in one of Saturday’s semifinal games. A victory there gives them a berth in the 2008 Olympics.

Kevin Martin Signed Five-Year Contract Extension

Kevin Martin signed a five-year contract extension Wednesday reportedly worth more than $50 million after he averaged a career-high and team-leading 20.2 points, along with 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.23 steals-per-game during the Kings 2006-07 season. The 26th overall pick in the 2004 draft out of Western Carolina also shot 38.1 percent from the 3-point line and 84.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Petrie, the Kings’ president of basketball operations, said Martin’s performance last season is only a prelude to greater success. Off the court, Petrie and the Kings like Martin’s commitment to the Sacramento community.

Kurt Warner: A Christian Athlete

I love watching sports especially those Christian athletes. I used to idolize Kurt Warner in his era with the Rams. He always testified about his relationship with Jesus Christ. And the he made Jesus Is Lord in his life.You know the success of his story. He won a Superbowl, a two time MVP and quarterback the offense which was called “The Greatest Show on Turf”.

Wherever Kurt Warner is right now, I salute him for showing much credit and worship to the God of his life.

Phil Garner is fired

Less than two years ago, the Houston Astros were celebrating their first National League pennant. On Monday, they were starting over.Less than two years after leading the Astros to the NL pennant, Phil Garner is out of a job. Houston released Garner on Monday, closing another chapter in Garner’s long managerial career.

Manager Phil Garner and general manager Tim Purpura were fired by owner Drayton McLane, who said the franchise “needed a fresh start” after a plunge to the bottom of the NL Central.

Bench coach Cecil Cooper was appointed interim manager, and team president Tal Smith will serve as interim general manager.

Samuel reports to Pats

Franchise cornerback Asante Samuel, who has missed all of training camp and the first three preseason games, reported to the New England Patriots on Monday and will sign the one-year tender worth $7.79 million.

Samuel, a four-year veteran will attempt to reclaim his starting job, but likely will have to pass the strenuous conditioning test administered by coach Bill Belichick to all players before working out with his teammates.

Samuel was not available for comment Monday. Glenn Toby, the senior vice president at the agency that represents him, said a deal had not been finalized by Monday afternoon.
