Aaron Oberholser withdrew from BMW Championship

Due to various injuries to both hands and wrists Arron Oberholser withdrew from the BMW Championship after nine holes on Thursday .

The injuries shouldn’t prevent Oberholser from returning later this season. Even though he’s exempt for the 2008 season based on his win at last year’s AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Oberholser said he is planning to compete in the Fry’s Electronics Open, scheduled Oct. 18-21 during the tour’s Fall Finish.

Phil Mickelson Wins Deutsche Bank Championship

Phil Mickelson won his 32nd PGA Tour title by two shots at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, Massachusetts, on Monday.
It was the first victory for Mickelson since The Players Championship in May, when he looked ready to make another run at Woods. Then he injured his left wrist that cost him his summer, and only recently has Mickelson been able to swing without flinching.

Marc Warren wins Johnnie Walker Playoffs

Marc Warren birdied the second playoff hole Sunday to beat Simon Wakefield and become the first Scottish winner of the Johnnie Walker Championship.

Warren holed a birdie putt on the 18th at Gleneagles to finish with a 69 and get into a playoff with Wakefield, who shot a 70. Both finished at 12-under 280.

In the playoff, both got pars on the first hole. On the second, Warren set up his birdie with a putt from 60 feet that stopped within five feet of the cup.

Steve Stricker wins The Barclays

Steve Stricker birdied four of the final five holes for a two-stroke victory over K.J. Choi at The Barclays.

Stricker closed with a 2-under-par 69. His 72-hole total was 16-under 268.

The win moves Stricker to the top of the FedEx Cup standings with a 2,050 point lead over Choi. He earned a winner’s check of $1,260,000.

Lorena Ochoa wins Safeway Classic

Lorena Ochoa won her third straight LPGA title with a five-stroke victory in the Safeway Classic on Sunday.

Ochoa shot a 71 in the final round for a 12-under 204 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club for her sixth victory of the season.

She dedicated the title to her mother, whose birthday was Sunday. She planned to take a month off to spend time with her family.

Ilonen wins Scandinavian Masters

Mikko Ilonen won the Scandinavian Masters by two shots Sunday after Martin Kaymer double-bogeyed the final hole.

Ilonen birdied the last hole at the Arlandastad course, closing with a 2-under 68 to finish with a 6-under 274 totals. It was the second European Tour victory for the former British amateur champion. The Finn won his first tournament at the Indonesia Open in February.

Ilonen began the day three shots behind Kaymer and James Kingston of South Africa.

Tiger will not play in Fedex Cup

It’s just another day that Tiger wanted to rest. Let him rest, why not?

Tiger Woods, who has two wins in his last two starts, said he’s too tired to play at Westchester Country Club next week in the Barclays, the first event of the heavily promoted, four-week FedEx Cup playoffs.

“We’re obviously disappointed that he’s not going to play,” said Peter Mele, the executive director of the Barclays. “It’s kind of like when you’re in the football playoffs and the quarterback gets hurt. We still have a terrific field. We’ve moved on.”

Finchem was traveling and could not be reached for comment, but Ty Votaw, a Tour spokesman, echoed Mele’s remarks in comments to the AP, saying the Tour was “disappointed.”

Tiger Woods draped a blue towel over sagging shoulders, looking like a heavyweight who had gone the distance.

You should have seen the other guys.Woods set modest goals that led to great expectations Saturday in the PGA Championship, turning in a 1-under 69 in torrid temperatures at Southern Hills to build a three-shot lead over Stephen Ames.

He has never lost a major when leading after 36 holes. He has never lost any tournament anywhere in the world when leading by more than one shot going into the final round.
