Kyle Wright to start at QB for Miami

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

No matter the sport, no matter the level, there’s been a constant throughout Miami quarterback Kyle Wright’s athletic career.

After leading Miami on its lone TD drive against Oklahoma, Kyle Wright will get the starting nod at QB against Florida International on Saturday.

Until this season, he’d never been a backup. “I’ve never had to deal with that in any sport since I was 6 years old, sitting on the sidelines and watching,” Wright said. “Definitely a different feeling.”

That feeling is gone. After being the second-stringer for Miami’s first two games, Wright is again the Hurricanes’ starting quarterback, passing Kirby Freeman on the depth chart for Saturday’s game between Miami (1-1) and Florida International (0-2) at the Orange Bowl.

If Miami coach Randy Shannon gets his way, this will end what he calls a “round-robin deal” at the position

Michigan 0-2, still not recovered

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

It seems that Michigan is entering to their worst football season ever. The upset they suffered a week ago is insurmountable in terms of recovering. The confidence of the players are too low.

Lloyd Carr must have imagined last week was the nightmare of his coaching career. Losing to a I-AA team made Michigan the nation’s laughingstock and opened them up to intense criticism.

But there was an undercurrent that Michigan was close, losing by only two points, and that Appalachian State was much better than the general public imagined.

There were no such allusions on Saturday as Murphy’s Law dropped an anvil on the Wolverines in the 39-7 loss to Oregon at Michigan Stadium. It started when quarterback Chad Henne threw an end-zone interception into multiple coverage to end the first drive.

And it probably will never end.

Blake Mitchell suspended

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

South Carolina quarterback Blake Mitchell was one of three players suspended for the opening game against Louisiana-Lafayette for missing summer school classes.

Steve Fink, a spokesman for the athletic department, said Thursday that Mitchell, tailback Bobby Wallace and cornerback Chris Hail were suspended for the Gamecocks’ opener Sept. 1 at home.

The three players also were suspended from the team’s first two practices this fall for violating an athletic department policy by missing classes.

The suspension won’t be that costly anyway.

USC Ranks NO. 1

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

I was anticipating this to happen. It they beat the UCLA last year, we don’t know, they might have beaten the Ohio State.

USC is always be the team to beat now. Their dominance in the last 7 years tells us that their recruiting strategy is working well. And their coach has magnificently handling this team. Let’s wait for them to shine this year again. Who can beat the USC? I believe that they will be undefeated this time.

Big Ten

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Northwestern wideout Andrew Brewer is one of the most intriguing offensive prospects in the conference. A backup quarterback at the start of last season, he was moved to receiver and made his only catch (for 48 yards) in a 21–7 victory over Iowa in early November. The 6′ 3″, 210-pound sophomore won a starting job in the spring…. Strong-armed Michigan State quarterback Brian Hoyer was impressive last year in relief of injured Drew Stanton, throwing for a combined 621 yards in losses to Minnesota and Penn State. With Stanton gone to the NFL, Hoyer takes over, and he’ll have a wealth of options at his disposal, including tailback Javon Ringer and tight end Kellen Davis …. Illinois led the Big Ten in rushing a year ago, and tailback Rashard Mendenhall was a big reason why.

The 5′ 11″, 224-pound junior averaged 8.2 yards on 78 carries and scored five touchdowns. With quarterback Juice Williams, who ran for 576 yards as a freshman, the Fighting Illini could have one of the best backfields in the Big Ten.
